Kung Fu PUMP

This non-traditional workout class is a form of cardio-weightlifting, burning approximately 500 calories per class! It uses a kettlebell, a cast iron weight (resembling a cannonball with a handle) to perform ballistic exercises that combine cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training.

Bored with the same, repeating fitness class or video tape? These classes continually change! There are no class formats that repeat to burn you out mentally or physically. You'll feel challenged each time you come in, both in trying to increase your own pace and in learning new ways to move.

And don't be fooled... anyone can participate, no matter what your current fitness level is. That's because each student works at their own speed and power. You don't have to keep up with everyone else. You literally can challenge yourself.

Unlike traditional dumbbells, the kettlebell's center of mass is extended beyond the hand, similar to Indian clubs or ishi sashi. This facilitates ballistic and swinging movements. By their nature, typical kettlebell exercises build strength and endurance, particularly in the lower back, legs, and shoulders, and increase grip strength. The basic movements, such as the swing, snatch, and the clean and jerk, engage the entire body at once, and in a way that mimics real world activities such as shoveling or farm work.

And it's more than lifting weights... the movements themselves combine into an unparalleled aerobic workout. Your heart will be pumping and your breathing elevated through every fun movement!

For flexibility, the last 15-20 minutes of the class are devoted to stretching the various parts of the body. Depending on what body part was worked in the cardiovascular portion, this class will emphasize different muscles; sometimes concentrating on the back or maybe the legs. After a fun, sweaty workout this is a great way to relax.
